Key Competitive Attractions

The capital region has seen the most development and progress in recent decades of all Icelandic regions. 196,000 people live in the region, accounting for over 62% of the total Icelandic population.

The greater Reykjavik area is major centre of economic activity, with key sectors in administration, commerce, services, transport, tourism, aerospace and communication.

In addition, the region is home to two out of the country’s three largest import/export ports, in Reykjavik and Hafnarfjorour, and Iceland’s main cultural and educational institutions are also situated here.
