Parnonas is a mountain range east of the Laconian plain and the Evrotas valley in the Peloponnese Region. The Parnonas range straddles the sub-regions of Laconia and Arcadia, and as such, the Panonas Development Company was created to stimulate and promote economic development in the areas of Arcadia, Laconia and Argolis.
Arcadia has a thermoelectric power station, which powers most of southern Greece, and an active coal mine. Other industrial activity includes agriculture, home to many potato farms, olive groves, and pastures. Agricultural activities are particularly prominent around Megalopolis and between Tripoli and Levidi.
Laconia’s administrative capital is Sparti (Sparta), and its ancient heritage attracts many thousands of tourists each year.
