Rhodope is a sub-region of the East Macedonia and Thrace Region. Its capital and administrative centre is Komotini, home to the Democritus University of Thrace, which has 30,000 students enrol annually.
Komotini is also the capital of the East Macedonia and Thrace region and 50% of the city’s population is Turkish-speaking, facilitating cross-border trade and investment. There is also a large creative and media industry in Komotini, with several newspapers, TV and radio stations, and various other creative businesses operating in the city.
Just an hour’s drive from the Turkish border and 2.5 hours from Thessaloniki, the Rhodope sub-region is well placed for foreign trade, and invites investment.

In collaboration with the regional authority of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, the Rhodope Development Company implements, supports, and manages local developmental initiatives. This includes coordinating European projects, improving the human resources of the Region, supporting innovative solutions and practices, and facilitating partnership building.
