Imathia Development Agency
Key Competitive Attractions
Imathia is a sub-region of the Central Macedonia Region of Greece, whose capital and administrative centre is Veria. The city of Veria is also an important trade centre of Macedonia, the seat of a bishop of the Greek Orthodox Church, and home to the ancient site of Beroea City, resulting in a strong religious tourism industry. Imathia is also popular among tourists because of its natural beauty, ski resorts in Seli, and numerous cultural events, such as the Imathiotika festivities. Proximity to Thessaloniki International Airport means that there are great opportunities for the expansion of international tourism and business.
Imathia’s economy is reliant largely on agriculture, with peaches and strawberries grown for jam, particularly ‘Naoussa’, a kind of jam famous in Greece.
