Searching for Your Ideal Business Location

Hessen (Hesse) is a central region of Germany. The capital is Wiesbaden, the largest city is Frankfurt am Main. The region of Hessen is particularly interesting due to its central geographic location and proximity to key European markets. 35 million people live within a 200 kilometre radius around Frankfurt. Because of its excellent communications infrastructure the region’s location is being used in a most efficient way. Frankfurt Airport is Europe’s largest airport in terms of cargo and the second largest in terms of passenger volume. Frankfurt’s main railway station is also the largest in Europe with the highest volume of passengers.

Many multinational companies are based in Hessen, which boosts more international company headquarters than any other German region. Frankfurt is also Europe’s most important financial centre. In addition to the European Central Bank, the world’s largest futures exchange, Eurex, as well as the world’s third largest stock exchange is also based in Frankfurt. The city is also a frequent host of large trade fairs such as the International Motorcar Exhibition or the annual Frankfurt Book Fair.

Hessen‘s economic politics is geared towards growth, which in turn is generated by innovation. The region is funding new technologies in particular, which is an advantage for the economic development of Hessen.

The following sectors are receiving the most public funding:

  • Biotechnology and Life Sciences (Pharma, Medical, Health)
  • ICT
  • Green technologies
  • Nano technology
  • Mobility
