Baden-Wurttemberg is a German state located in the south-western part of the country to the east of the Upper Rhine, bordering France to the west, Switzerland to the south, Bavaria to the east and northeast, Hessen to the north, and Rhineland Palatinate to the northwest. It is the third largest German state by both area and population (10.7 million inhabitants). The capital is Stuttgart.

Most major cities in Baden-Wurttemberg are on the Neckar River, which runs downstream through the state, passing Tübingen, Stuttgart, Heilbronn, Heidelberg, and Mannheim.
