Lyon Economic Development Agency - ADERLY - Development Projects
The ONLYLYON project intends to make Lyon a leader in European business by advancing its thriving sectors (healthcare, environment/chemicals, urban transport, technical textiles and digital entertainment), as well its traditional strengths (tourism, history, gourmet dining, heritage and resources) and its highly-developed services industry.
With the ONLYLYON mark, ADERLY targets decision makers and opinion leaders in major European capitals. This mark also serves to express the pride and identity of the people of Lyon, who will become the chief ambassadors for their city by representing their city’s assets.
Planned Developments
Carré de Soie
Major Commercial
The Carré de Soie is an ambitious 240-hectare urban development project, including a real estate project and a leisure center, in the towns of Villeurbanne and Vaulx-en-Velin, located to the east of Lyon.
A business center on a European scale
In April 2009, the first phase of the project was inaugurated: a shopping and leisure center built by Altarea, requiring an investment of €130 million. This center offers over 60,000 sq. metres of commercial space, including superstores and mid-sized stores (such as Castorama, Jardiland, Go Sport and Saturn), 45 shops (such as H&M and Levi’s), 15 restaurants (such as Hippopotamus and Courtepaille) and a Pathé multiplex with fifteen movie theaters. Opposite the centre, 70,000 sq. meters of space will be available for outdoor recreational activities offered by the UCPA.
In 2010-2015, 180,000 sq. meters of office space will become available, and a total of 310,000 sq. meters will be completed by 2020, to make the Carré de Soie an optimal location for companies wanting to make their place of business visible and significant. Many services will be offered: inter-company childcare centers, restaurants, personal services, sports and leisure, and more.
Lyon Confluence
Mixed Use Development
Lyon Confluence is one of the largest city-centre development projects currently in progress in Europe. A former industrial zone, this 150-hectare site (370 acres) stretching from Perrache train station to the confluent of the Rhone and Saone rivers, is undergoing complete transformation.
The new site will include housing, services, leisure activities and major cultural organisations, such as the future Confluences Museum. The majority of the project was completed in early 2009, and the remaining phases will run through to 2015. Upon the project’s completion, the population in the Confluence district will have grown from 7,000 to 25,000, and the number of jobs in the area will have also significantly increased.
The first occupants of the district included Lyon’s daily newspaper “Le Progres", the company Les Salins, and the radio stations of Espace Group.
Lyon Saint-Exupery Airport
Airport DevelopmentLyon Airport is connected to 112 European and French cities. The airport is France's second-largest in terms of air cargo and it is one of Europe's rare multi-modal hubs (plane-train-freeway). The airport is currently working on a new real estate project called "Hub Business", which includes a 4-star hotel, 7,500 square meters of office space, a business center and a covered garage for 2,000 cars.
The Rhone River Embankments
Open Space DevelopmentA 5-kilometer stretch on the left embankment of the Rhone River has been developed into green spaces and lanes for non-motor traffic (bicycles, skates and pedestrians). This project aims to create a place for relaxation and leisure in a natural, environmentally-friendly setting in the heart of the city.
