Aude is situated between the Mediterranean Sea and the Pyrenees mountains. Efficient rail and motorway networks provide excellent connections to the surrounding departments of Haute-Garonne, Tarn, Pyrénées-Orientales, Ariège, and Hérault.
Agriculture and viticulture are Aude's predominant sectors. Port-la-Nouvelle and Gruissan fishing ports create a strong maritime industry, and renewable energy is also becoming a significant sector with the addition of wind turbine farms to create a cleaner, more sustainable economy, as well as more jobs.
General Council of the Aude collaborates with the Languedoc-Roussillon on many initiatives to encourage businesses to locate in the Aude and provide information on available assistance.
The General Council also provides aid to businesses through its Economic Development Scheme and the Departmental Scheme of work zone.
