Uusimaa Regional Council
Key Competitive Attractions
Uusimaa is home to Helsinki, and as a result is, by far, the most populous region in Finland. Approximately 1.5 million people make Uusimaa their home - almost a quarter of the population of the country - in an area 6,805 km sq.
Uusimaa was named as European Entrepreneurial Region 2012 in 2010. This award was announced in recognition of the value of its economy, and the support that the regional development council offers entrepreneurs in the area. There are many upcoming events scheduled for 2012, which will help to reflect this achievement.
Quality of life is extremely important to the Regional Council; Finland was highlighted by Newsweek magazine as the best country in the world to live in, partly due to initiatives of the Uusimaa region. The current Regional Strategic Plan is centred around building on this success with four key themes:
- Housing
- Business and Competence
- Well-being
- Infrastructure and Environment
Assistance and Support For New Business Investors
The Uusimaa Regional Council works with businesses in order to help make Finland a dynamic, competitive economy. Support can be provided in a number of ways, including lobbying, networking amongst similar businesses in the region, and marketing of the region on the international stage.
