South West Finland is 10,910 km sq, and home to 461,000 people. Composed of five regions: Vakka-Suomi, Aboland, Salo, Loimaa and Turku, South West Finland is also known as Finland Proper. The site of the original capital city of Finland, South West Finland is the third most populous region in the country and is the most significant agricultural producer in the country.
Turku's shipyards have created some of the largest cruisers ever made, and the prosperity of these shipyards forms much of the basis for economic life in the region. Uusikaupunki is another important manufacturing base in South West Finland, creating electric and hybrid cars.
Tourism is important to South West Finland, which has many coastal villages and 22,000 islands.

The Regional Council of South West Finland works in conjunction with the Baltic Sea Coastal Tourism Network to promote and develop environmentally friendly rural and coastal tourism packages. The Regional Council is an active international player, and works with counterparts across the EU, China and Russia to foster regional development.
