Ostrava is the capital of the Moravian-Silesian Voivodeship, and the third largest city in the Czech Republic. Ostrava has a population of 310,464 people, of which 36,000 are students attending the city’s three universities.
Ostrava’s industrial zones have succeeded in attracting investment from companies such as Siemens, PEGATRON Czech, SungWoo HiTech and CTP Invest. Traditionally an industrial and manufacturing centre, Ostrava is home to Hyundai and the Virkovice steel works, a major metallurgical and machine engineering facility.
Ostrava has developed modern financial and business services in recent years, whilst maintaining traditional industrial and manufacturing strengths. Ostrava is focusing on developing these high-tech sectors further to reinvent itself as a city of culture and finance, supported by investments from CE Money Centre and HSBC.
