Istria is the biggest peninsular in the Adriatic Coast, and the county shares excellent connections with Italy and Slovenia.
The county has established two clusters:
- Automotive Cluster of Croatia (ACH)
- ICT Cluster
The county has a diverse economy with strengths in manufacturing (metals, wood; automotive components; electric machines and appliances; glass; plastic; textiles; food and drink), traditional agriculture; sea fishing, shipping and maritime industries; construction and construction materials (lime, cement, brick, stone), and transport and logistics.
The highest contributing industries in terms of GDP are manufacturing, tourism, and trade.
A particular focus of the county is on agriculture and the production of ecological food and wine.
