Peru is the third largest country in South America and benefits from a central location on the western coast of the continent.

The country is a major exporter, in particular within the sectors of mining, agriculture, fisheries, textiles, chemicals, oil and natural gas.  

Several basic and precious metals are exported, including copper, zinc, molybdenum, iron, lead, tin, gold and silver.

Peru is the world’s leading exporter of asparagus and paprika and a leading producer of fish meal, oil and Alpaca and Vicuña fibers.

The country is a member of the Andean Community of Nations and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, and has Free Trade Agreements with Singapore, Canada, China and the EFTA countries. In addition, Peru has a Trade Promotion Agreement (TPA) with the United States and economy complementary agreements with Chile and the Mercosur countries. Countries which have yet to implement the TPA but which have agreed in principle include Mexico, Japan and the EU.
