Honduras is a distribution centre of Central America, and benefits from close proximity to the United States (two hours by air and 48 to 72 hours by sea). Honduras offers some of the lowest logistical costs in the region.
The country is actively promoting the participation of foreign direct investment in Light Manufacturing, Agribusiness, Tourism and Services. The current main business sectors are Textiles, Agriculture, Mining, Automotive Components, Electronics and Furniture production.
Honduras is signatory to the Dominican Republic-Central America (CAFTA-DR) Free Trade Agreement, which also includes the United States. In addition, the country has bilateral free trade agreements with the USA, Mexico, Japan, Canada and Australia. Negotiations for free-trade status are underway with the European Union.
Industrial Processing Zones/Free Zones can be established anywhere in Honduras. The scheme provides fiscal incentives, streamlined customs procedures and competitive advantages to foreign investors.
