Zambia is one of Sub-Saharan Africa’s most urbanized countries. Approximately half of the population is concentrated in urban zones.
The economy is in large part based on copper mining. For the purpose of diversification, the government also promotes investment opportunities in agriculture, tourism, gemstone mining, and hydropower.
Primary export items include copper and cobalt, but also slag and ash, sugar and sugar confectionary, dairy products, eggs, natural honey, copper wire and electricity.
Agricultural products include maize, soybean, cotton, sugar, sunflower seeds, wheat, sorghum, pearl millet, cassava and tobacco. Floriculture is a also a promising growth sector.
Zambia is a member of the South African Development Community (SADC) and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA).
