The Seychelles has one of the highest GDPs per capita in Africa and is ranked first among African countries on the Human Development Index (HDI).

The main engine of the economy is tourism, which contributes 21% of GDP and employs 16% of the labour force. The second most important industry is fishing. The country also has potential in energy and financial services. The Seychelles sits on potential oil and gas deposits and the government is committed to making the financial sector one of the key pillars of the national economy.

Industrial activities are chiefly in agro-processing. The biggest companies are Indian Ocean Tuna Ltd (canning), Seybrew (beverages), Printec (stationery and printing) and Coetivy Prawn (prawn production).

Assistance and Support For New Business Investors

The Seychelles Investment Bureau is the first point of contact in all matters related to business and investment in the Seychelles. The Bureau is tasked with investment promotion and the facilitation of the investment process. A special unit deals with aftercare services.
