Key Competitive Attractions

The capital of Senegal, Dakar, is a world hub and gateway to western Africa. It is approximately 5 hours by flight to European markets and 7 hours to North American markets. The favourable location has made the country an attractive target for business outsourcing investments and ICT.

The Port Autonome de Dakar is at the crossroads of international shipping lanes. It has deep-water berths and storage facilities for bulk, dry and refrigerated containers, oil and petrol. Repair services are offered at highly competitive prices.

In addition, Senegal has good road infrastructure in and around the capital. There are three international airports: Dakar, Saint Louis and Ziguinchor. The new Blaise Diagne International Airport is expected to be complete in 2012.

Agricultural exports include papaya, sweet corn, bananas, peppers, sweet potato, lemon, okra, mango, banana, beans, cherry tomatoes, herbs, asparagus, peas and juices. Fishing, shrimp harvesting and tourism are also important growth sectors.
