Key Competitive Attractions
The economy of Rwanda is based heavily on agriculture, in particular the export of coffee and tea. Coffee makes up more than 50% of the total export value. Other exports include tin cassiterite, wolframite and pyrethrum. The country has relatively few natural resources.
In recent yeast, private investments have created new business activities such as cut flowers and fish farming. Commercial fishing is mostly centred on Lake Kivu. In addition, tourism has emerged as a growing sector.
In 1998, Rwanda signed an Enhanced Structural Adjustment Facility with the IMF. The country has also opted for a privatization programme with the World Bank.
