Key Competitive Attractions

Namibia is counted among the most attractive investment targets in Africa. According to the 2011 Africa Competitiveness Report published by the World Economic Forum, Namibia is the fourth most competitive economy on the continent. The country was also ranked in the top three for the categories infrastructure and financial market development.

Export activity is concentrated in mining (diamonds, lead, zinc, tin, silver and tungsten) and agriculture. Namibia is one of the world’s largest producers of uranium. The country also has substantial fishing grounds, and fish processing is a major business sector.

Namibia is member of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), the Community of Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) and the Southern African Customs Union (SACU). The country also enjoys the benefits of Lome IV membership, with privileged, duty-free and quota free access to European markets for most goods.

The Export Processing Zones (EPZ) Act was adopted in 1995. The regime allows companies to set up operations in a zero tax and duty-free environment.
