Key Competitive Attractions

Mozambique has enjoyed consistently high rates of GDP growth since 2000 and has been lauded as an African success story by the IMF. The country has a population of 20,530,714.

The most important business sectors include agriculture, fisheries, textiles, minerals, metals, gas and tourism.

For agricultural exports, the main market is Europe. The chief products are corn, flowers, citrus fruits, cashew nuts, peppers and paprika. In terms of fisheries, Mozambican prawns have a presence in both the Asian and European markets.

The country is endowed with considerable natural resources: natural gas, coal, gold, titanium, ilmenite, zircon, rutile, tantalite, marble, and precious stones. Industries involve textiles, agro-business, aluminium, iron, steel, coal and gas. In addition, Mozambique has considerable potential in renewable energy (biofuel, solar) and in tourism. The country has countless beaches and natural parks, yet the tourism sector is still largely undeveloped.
