Ghana is expected to achieve the highest GDP growth of any country in the world in 2011. The country has a diverse and rich set of resources: gold, diamonds, manganese ore and bauxite. Agricultural products are also vital to the economy. Cocoa accounts for one third of the country’s export revenue. Other export items include timber, coconut, shea nuts and coffee. Ghana may also become a major producer of oil in the future. Considerable oil reserves were discovered in 2007.
With 30% of GDP in industry, including mining, manufacturing, construction and electricity, Ghana has one of Africa’s most advanced manufacturing bases. Industries include textiles, apparel, steel (using scrap), tires, flour milling, cocoa processing, beverages, tobacco, simple consumer goods, and car-, truck-, and bus assembly.
