Gabon is the third largest producer and exporter of crude oil in Sub-Saharan Africa. The oil sector accounts for about 50% of GDP and 80% of all exports. As a result, the country has one of the highest rates of GDP per capita in the region.
The country’s other main exports are timber, manganese and uranium. Industry is based primarily on the processing of these chief export goods, but also includes chemicals, ship repair, breweries, cigarettes, textiles and cement. The Sogara oil refinery at Port-Gentil is the only refinery in Gabon.
