Key Competitive Attractions

The Central African Republic is a landlocked and sparsely populated country, with rich, yet largely unexploited, mineral resources.

The country’s biggest export item is diamonds, which accounts for more than 50% of export earnings. However, this does not take into account the amount of diamonds, which are exported illegally, estimated to about 30% to 50% of production. Resources such as gold and uranium are largely unexploited.

The vast majority of the population are engaged in subsistence farming, and forestry and food production are the largest sectors in the country. Principal exports include cotton, coffee, and tobacco, while timber accounts for about 16% of export earnings.
