Key Competitive Attractions

Cameroon is the largest economy in the Economic Community of Central African States, accounting for about 50% of the combined GDP. The country's economy is based primarily on the export of primary commodities, principally petroleum, cocoa, coffee, and cotton.

Other sectors of the economy include livestock, fishing and forestry. The main industries are aluminium production, food processing, light consumer goods, textiles and ship repair.

The forestry sector is the country’s single largest export earner after oil, but the export of non-processed timber has been banned. Mining and tourism also remain relatively under-exploited. Bauxite and iron ore deposits have been identified and there are potential reserves of gold, diamonds, uranium, rutile, industrial clays and low-grade nickel and cobalt.

Assistance and Support For New Business Investors

The Investment Promotion Agency is tasked with collecting information on investment opportunities in the country. The agency offers assistance in finding commercial property and may offer recruitment and training assistance, low interest rate loans and exemptions from regulations such as licences or foreign exchange restrictions.
